Albertas Run

One of the most successful horses entered into the 2013 Grand National, 12 year old Albertas Run is trained by Jonjo O’Neill and has earned nearly £1,000,000 for his connections over his career.

Of his 27 chase starts, Albertas Run has an incredible record winning nine of them and placing fives times for both second and third as well as bagging four hurdle and two NHF wins to add to his tally. From his 35 starts, he as won 15 in total which equates to being in the money 25 from the 35 times he has run.

Though he has pulled up a three times during his career he has only fallen once and that was back in November 2010 and he has never unseated his rider but with top weight being handed down to him this year, 11-08 may be a tough burden to carry particularly as he has never raced at this distance before, his previous longest being 3m 2f.

A veteran around the Aintree track, he has run there nine times, winning three of them and placing second twice and third three times so he’s no stranger to the fences or the course and though he’s used to carrying very heavy weights, 11-08 for the Grand National, especially at 12 years of age may be a stretch too far.

He entered the Ryanair Chase in the 2013 Cheltenham Festival but things did not go his way and he was subsequently pulled up by AP McCoy in what was suggested to have been his last race. Following that disappointing result it was decided that he would not enter the 2013 Grand National and he was withdrawn.
