Becher Chase Sells Out At Aintree

It looks like it’s going to be another bumper year for those at Aintree Racecourse following the announcement that the Becher Chase, on December 6th has now been sold out, reaching it’s maximum, non Grand National, capacity of 42,000 attendees.

Following an initiative to give free tickets to the Liverpool community, organisers of the event have confirmed that they were inundated with requests for tickets and the only availability remaining is a limited number of hospitality places that can be booked via the racecourse.

The Betfred Becher Chase raceday is the only meeting outside of the Crabbie’s Grand National Festival when horses tackle the famous Aintree National fences with the feature £140,000 Grade Three Becher Chase. The Betfred Grand Sefton Chase is also run over the Grand National fences.

This year’s National winner, Pineau De Re, also ran in the Becher Chase last season and although the fences did trip him up on that occasion, they proved no difficulty for the chaser when he took to them again in April.

This year’s Becher Chase Day is being used as a platform for Aintree Racecourse who intend to launch its new Community Programme which will aim to provide opportunities and make a difference to children and adults in Merseyside.

Aintree community partners Alder Hey Hospital will be sending their Community Choir who will be getting everyone in the Christmas spirit by singing Christmas Carols from the Queen Mother Stand and the featured charity for the day, The Walton Centre, will also be present as will Everton FC in the Community who will be showcasing their Blind Football Team with their mascot, Changy, on hand to entertain the kids.

John Baker, North West regional director for Jockey Club Racecourses, said: “We are delighted to reach maximum capacity for our Community Day on Saturday, December 6 – The Betfred Becher Chase Raceday.

“The Betfred Becher Chase is always a great day out with racegoers seeing the Grand National fences for the first time in the jumps season, however, this year is going to be even more special.

“At Aintree we always try to give the best possible customer experience and aside from some fantastic racing there is plenty going on off the track with music, kids entertainment, more catering options and various community activities.”
