Always Waining Primed For Grand National

If there’s one horse to watch this coming Saturday it’s the Peter Bowen trained Always Waining. Three time winner of the Topham Chase this horse knows his way around the Aintree fences like the back of his hoof and although he’s 12 years old, he absolutely has as good as shot as any of the current race favourites.

Along with Always Waining, Bowen is in the fortunate position of having another Grand National Runner in the form of Mumbles Head who was recently been bought by Patricia Thompson who won the John Smith’s Grand National with her first runner, Party Politics, in 1992.

Bowen has reported that his Aintree specialist Always Waining is in top form for his first shot at a Grand National despite tailing off on his most recent run at Chepstow in early March.

Speaking to Sky, Bowen said “He never shows much before Aintree, but he’s in good form. He’s a spring horse and likes spring ground. He’s still in the Topham but he’d only go there if it came up soft, which is unlikely.”

And with Bowen’s third entry, Gullible Gordon, unlikely to make the cut for the National he’s probably going to go to the Topham Chase instead.
