Dominic Elsworth
Dominic Elsworth is a national hunt jockey who has ridden in the Aintree Grand National on eight previous occasions. His first ride in the major event was in 2003 on Southern Star when he finished a very respectable 14th.
He returned in 2004 on Artic Jack but fell at the 1st and his bad luck with the national just kept on coming when he was unseated in 2005 on Native Emperor, fell in 2006 off Ross Comm, was unseated in 2007 from Le Duc, unseated once again in 2008 from Simon and then, due to a serious head injusry was forced to take a break from racing until he was given a clean bill of health.
This led to him missing both the 2009 and 2010 Grand Nationals but was back in the saddle again in 2011, on Skippers Brig where he turned in a sterling performance to bring the horse home in 9th place. In 2012 he partnered Calgary Bay for Henrietta Knight, and despite a hefty 11-06 he managed to finish in 14th place.
Yorkshire-born Elsworth primarily worked for Sue and Harvey Smith in Bingley for 10 years before going freelance in 2006. In recent years, many of his rides have been for trainers Oliver Sherwood, Paul Webber, Lucy Wadham and the now retired Henrietta Knight.
