Quiscover Fontaine

Quiscover Fontaine is trained by Willie Mullins and owned by JP McManus and was attempting the Grand National for the second time on April 6th 2013.

Usually partnered with David Casey, Quiscover Fontaine has had mixed form with mediocre performances including at Leopardstown and Punchestown and Thurles all in 2013.

Having only ran in seven chases prior to running in the 2012 National, trainer Willie Mullins managed to get a couple more under his belt with AP McCoy on board but even he couldn’t work his magic and get a much needed win out of him.

Having said that, it was always unlikely that he would partner him in the 2013 Grand National and ultimately he renewed his pairing with David Casey. He was given 10-07, 3lbs more than in 2012 putting him in a better position overall.

He’s an unusual horse in that he performs equally as well on both Good ground as he does on Heavy but has yet to prove himself over large distances with his furthest win coming on 2m3f so whether or not he could make it around the course was questionable however he did just that, finishing in 16th position overall.

Believe it or not this actually bodes very well for the 2014 Grand National as horses who can at least get around the course tend to fair better overall and he will only be 10 years old which means he could do well should he get another entry.
