David Pipe

David Pipe is the son of Martin Pipe CBE, fifteen times champion National Hunt trainer, and the most successful racehorse trainer in British racing history and has fast carved a niche for himself as an extremely successful and talented National Hunt trainer.

When his father, Martin Pipe, retired at the end of April 2006, David channeled his talents towards the Pond House string and by the end of the season his tally stood at 134 winners (more than any other trainer), prize money won was in excess of £1.6million and he had finished third in the trainers championship behind Paul Nicholls and Jonjo O’Neill.

It took me a lifetime to win the race and David’s done it well already

The 2007/08 season was to prove even more spectacularly successful – a Cheltenham Festival double (An Accordion – William Hill Trophy and Our Vic – Ryanair Chase) was followed up by another double at the Grand National meeting for good measure. Comply Or Die provided the highlight of the whole season with his sensational victory in the John Smiths Grand National itself – a feat that took his father twenty years to achieve.

Pipe’s success in National Hunt racing has continued in incredible fashion and the 2010/11 season saw the emergence of another superstar, Grands Crus who has won the Paddy Power Intermediate Hurdle at Cheltenham’s Open Meeting, the Fixed Brush Hurdle (Listed) at Haydock and the Cleeve Hurdle (Grade 2), again at Cheltenham. Runner-up in both the World Hurdle and Liverpool Hurdle at the Cheltenham and Aintree Festivals rounded off an amazing season.

His most successful Cheltenham Festival was in 2014 when he racked up three winners in the Arkle Challenge with Western Warhorse, the Ryanair Chase with Dynaste and the Byrne Group plate with Ballynagour.

David Pipe has saddled 21 Grand National runners since his first entry in 2007 including Our Father who ran in the 2014 renewal. With stable jockey Tom Scudamore and second jockey Conor O’Farrell racing for him, it looks like this season could be even better.
