Following his triumphant success at the 2010 Grand National, when he rode home to his first victory at the event on Don’t Push It, Tony McCoy has been nominated for the prestigous BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2010.

He is one of 10 sports personalities to be shortlisted for the award, the winner of which will be announced on December 19th 2010 following a public vote.

The 15-time champion jump jockey is hot favourite to scoop the award with bookies giving him odds on to win it outright. Paddy Power already have him at 4/5 with Betfair placing him top at 2/1.

McCoy’s main rival for the prize appears to be fellow Ulsterman Graeme McDowell, winner of the US Open, but two things are going in McCoy’s favour – he was the only one of the ten nominees shortlisted to have received a vote from all 30 sports editors and no racing personality has ever won it so maybe the tide is turning and this will just seal the deal on what has been an incredible year for the ever worthy Tony McCoy.
