2014 Grand National Result
It was another thrilling display over the Aintree Grand National fences and with Pineau De Re reigning victorious in the first £1m Grand National. It was a huge win for trainer Dr Richard Newland and jockey Leighton Aspell, who almost seemed unfazed by the win when interviewed on Channel 4.
With a false start and Battle Group that refused to run the start was delay by a few minutes but then it was all systems go as the 39 runners took their chances over the fences.
Double Seven went off as joint favourite and duly rewarded the each-way backers, coming home in 3rd place behind Balthazar King who got close but couldn’t catch Pineau De Re on the run-in so once again Johnson & Hobbs have to be content with 2nd place.
Teaforthree, a front runner in the betting since the horses were entered was a faller.
Nicky Henderson, who fielded a strong hand of four runners – Long Run, Triolo D’Alene, Hunt Ball and Shakalakaboomboom didn’t even get one of them in the top 5.
Of the 40 runners that lined-up, 18 completed the course and all horses returned home safe and sound.
